Home Safety Tips

  • SEE SOMETHING? SAY SOMETHING! If you observe suspicious activity in the neighborhood, please report it to the Anne Arundel County Police by calling 911. For non-emergencies, call the police at 410-222-8050. Do not call the Security Committee, which has no jurisdictionover criminal activity and cannot be expected to respond immediately.

  • KEEP YOUR DOORS AND WINDOWS CLEAR OF TREES AND SHRUBBERY so they are visible from the street and to your neighbors

  • KEEP YOUR YARD AND HOUSE WELL-LIT AT NIGHT
    • Put lights on timers to make it appear the house is occupied when you are not at home
    • Install security lights outside your home and leave them on at night

  • TELL A TRUSTED FRIEND OR NEIGHBOR when you are going away and arrange for someone to collect your mail and newspapers, but do not make your travel plans well known to everyone

  • CONSIDER INSTALLING A SECURITY SYSTEM from a reputable company

  • KEEP YOUR YARD CLEAR OF TOOLS, LADDERS, or anything else that could be used to gain entry to your house

  • TAKE NOTICE OF ANYONE YOU DO NOT RECOGNIZE WHO IS LOITERING on the street, sitting in a parked car for a long period of time, or who does anything that seems suspicious to you; call 911 to report such activity

  • IF YOU HAVE A BREAK-IN, FIRST CALL THE POLICE, then contact your next-door neighbors and the CBCIA Security Committee Chair to alert the community to be on the look-out for suspicious activity

  • KEEP RECORDS, INCLUDING PHOTOS, of  all valuables or expensive belongings, such as electronic equipment and jewelry

  • ENSURE THAT VALUABLE ITEMS ARE NOT VISIBLE through your windows
